What you'll learn in this screen printing workshop:
This 4-hour course offers a hands-on introduction to the world of screen printing, guiding you through every step of the process as you create your own poster design in our studio-gallery. Whether you're a beginner or looking to expand your skills, you'll learn the fundamentals of screen printing—from setting up equipment to achieving your final print.

Throughout the class, we’ll teach you the techniques needed to print projects at home or in your own studio. You’ll have the opportunity to choose from a selection of six designs to print on 19 x 25 inch 80lb French paper, or feel free to bring your own items, such as tote bags, shirts, fabric, or paper, to print on.

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, as this is a hands-on, creative class (think: painting day attire).

The workshop is limited to 4 students and will proceed even if it isn’t full.

 

Syllabus:

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, as this is a hands-on, creative class

1st hour: 
• Introduction to the history and basics of silk screening.
• Overview of the silk screening process: emulsion, drying, exposure, washing, and curing.
• Understanding the difference between non-halftone and halftone images.
• Exploring the difference between 1-color and 2-color designs.

2nd hour: 
• Overview and demonstration of basic silk screen concepts and capabilities.
• Live demonstration of the printing process, showing how it works with the six available designs.
• Q&A session, including the distribution of a supplier list and home setup instructions.

• Step-by-step demonstrations followed by hands-on practice sessions.
• Each student receives two 19 x 25 inch sheets of 80 lb French paper—one for practice and the other for their final print.

4th hour: 
• Studio time with one-on-one assistance to work on your final print and handle cleanup.
• Q&A session, including the distribution of a supplier list and home setup instructions.
